St Peter’s RC Primary & Nursery’s goal is to enable all children to develop their capacities as successful learners, confident individuals, responsible citizens and effective contributors in both the school and in the wider community. Through Enterprise they are addressing a Curriculum for Excellence and have encompassed Citizenship and a Critical Skills programme.
The children are involved in Entrepreneurial learning and Social Enterprise at various stages in the school. There are numerous examples of this but two in particular stand out. The school choir has been very successful in competitions leading to invitations from community bodies to perform at local events - for example Switching on the Christmas lights in Morningside. Working alongside Sir Tom Farmer the choir will produce a CD with proceeds supporting a Malawian charity.
Another good example involved P7 pupils learning Spanish. They got involved with Scottish Screen and made an i-movie, set in a Spanish café scene and narrated in Spanish. A DVD was made of their work and this was showcased at Edinburgh’s Celebrating Enterprise Day. St Peters RC really are an enterprising bunch.

Enterprise runs through everything at Biggar High School! Despite its relatively small size and challenging rural location its approach to the curriculum and enterprise in particular, caught the eye of the judges.
One example of its approach to enterprise can be found in the international trade project. The task culminated in pupils producing and presenting a promotion of a Scottish product to an overseas market, using the knowledge and skills currently being developed in different subjects. Local business people and Business Studies teachers will act as consultants for pupils.
Through this project and a variety of others the school has forged strong partnerships with businesses such as Blackmount Organics, Calzeat textiles and Biggar Adventure. The pupils exhibit strong business initiatives as can be seen by their organisation of Strictly Biggar Dancing where they ran all aspects of the talent show and raised £2,300 for Children in Need. Biggar High is most definitely an enterprising school

The school’s enterprising activities include organising St Andrews day celebrations, a Children in Need charity event, and a profit making café.
There are also school job fairs with outside employers as well as jobs advertised in school such as running a healthy tuck shop or becoming a recycle manager.
Pupils also get the chance to have work experience in different building trades.
