The Highland Council have worked tirelessly with NHS Highland, to ensure that all of their 219 schools can proudly classify themselves as Health Promoting Schools two years ahead of the rest of Scotland.
Rising to a five year challenge set by the Scottish Executive in 2003, all schools within the Highlands have adopted a wealth of activities which promote a healthy lifestyle to children, parents and teachers. These include junk food free tuck shops, nutritional Action groups, peer meditation schemes, healthy living magazines and even the development of school gardens.
By educating both the children and the parents the Highland Council is ensuring that a healthy lifestyle is adopted in the home as well as at school.
