Pupils and teachers at Rosehall High School are among the fittest in Scotland thanks to their ground breaking health campaign. Fresh, nutritious meals have replaced junk food in the canteen. At break time, youngsters are encouraged to snack on fruit, and all S2 pupils take a science course showing how a healthy lifestyle can cut their chances of getting heart disease and cancer. Initiatives such as sexual health workshops and sessions on stopping smoking and avoiding drugs have proved popular across the school. Pupils are also encouraged to join in rugby, aerobics and dance sessions. The school was the first in North Lanarkshire to win a Silver Award in the authority’s Health Promoting Schools Scheme.
