This category is about offering access to education for all young people and removing barriers where they exist.
This year, the focus is on ‘looked after children’, which includes children who are subject to supervision and live with family members as well as looked after and accommodated children who live with foster carers or in residential schools or care homes.
If you can respond positively to one or more of the following questions, we would welcome your nomination:
Can you provide examples of support that has been given to looked after children in your school or a school that you know, to become more successful learners, confident and resilient individuals, responsible citizens or effective contributors?
Can you tell us how barriers have been removed for looked after children in your school, or a school that you know, to improve access to education or participation in wider school activity?
Can you describe how your school, or a school that you know has contributed to the ‘corporate parenting’ role, working in partnership with other agencies and services to meet the needs of looked after children and young people?
Nominations for the 2008 Education Awards are now closed. Finalists will be contacted in March/April.
