Scottish Education Awards

Determined to Succeed Best Enterprise

This category recognises the value of direct participation of young people in an experiential entrepreneurial activity e.g. running a product or service enterprise (economic or social) and the impact this has on the quality of their learning experience, their knowledge of business and commerce; and the importance of wealth creation to a wealthier and smarter Scotland.

Nominations should first outline the enterprise based in your school, or a school that you know, and describe what makes it exceptional. The nomination should include the following information:

  • Name of enterprise
  • Number of pupils involved
  • Product or service offered
  • Duration of enterprise
  • Total sales
  • Profit realised

You should then answer all of these questions:

  • How have young people in your school, or a school that you know, demonstrated their understanding and practical experience of running an enterprise? This should include reference to:
    • The process involved in setting up the enterprise
    • The importance of profit and how this was distributed
    • The importance of understanding their role and that of others, within the enterprise
    • The decision making process for deciding on the product or service innovation
    • How the product or service was produced, financed, marketed, advertised, promoted and sold
    • The administration and ICT used to support the enterprise
    • The level and type of customer service provided
    • The help or support provided from a business partner/employer in your local community and the impact this had on the young people
  • How have young people in your school, or a school that you know, demonstrated their enthusiasm and excitement for entrepreneurship and wealth creation (for themselves and the Scottish economy), through participation in the enterprise?
  • Some young people will become entrepreneurs but all young people need to be enterprising. How have young people in your school, or a school that you know, developed their enterprise skills? This should include reference to:
