This category is about encouraging young people to be citizens of local, national and global communities and promoting positive action against cultural and religious intolerance.
We want to develop and promote mutual respect and understanding between people of all faiths and none, break down barriers between communities, and encourage pupils to actively reach out to the diverse communities that they are located in.
If you can respond positively, and in some detail to one or more of the following questions, we would welcome your nomination:
Can you describe how young people in your school, or a school that you know, are encouraged to become active citizens within their local community and to promote good links between the school and the community?
Has your school, or a school that you know, been involved in any projects or initiatives (such as a twinning arrangement between a denominational and non‑denominational school) which have addressed sectarianism or cultural intolerance?
Has your school, or a school that you know, had a positive impact on young people’s understanding of the issues surrounding religious or cultural intolerance, or on pupil attitudes?
Has your school, or a school that you know, used an innovative method of raising awareness of sectarianism, or are they committed to a progressive programme of work?
What initiatives has your school, or a school that you know, been involved in to promote global citizenship and Scotland’s place in the world, or to encourage an understanding of the international dimension to citizenship?
