One Scotland - Anti Sectarianism Award

Members of Earnhill and Sacred Heart Primary Schools with their One Scotland - Anti Sectarianism Award

Earnhill Primary School and Sacred Heart Primary School

Firm Friends is a joint anti-sectarianism venture involving Earnhill Primary School and Sacred Heart Primary School which are located in the Larkfield area of Inverclyde. The area has a history of high unemployment and as a result of this there are social/emotional problems within the community. Earnhill is a non-denominational school and Sacred Heart is a catholic school.

Having secured funding the schools embarked on various ideas as part of this project. Children volunteered to take part in a joint drama group. They are currently developing a production called ‘Breaking down the wall’. They are also working on a joint rap that will be recorded onto a CD. The children from both schools have been learning about the impact on everyday lives of people practicing their religious beliefs.

The sessions have been very positive as the children have been extremely pro-active in promoting the aims of the venture. These young people are going to be the citizens of the future and the skills and knowledge they have gained during this joint project will enrich their social and emotional development.
