Scottish Education Awards

One Scotland - Anti-Sectarianism Award

Pupils from St Margaret Mary's School receive their award

St Margaret Mary's Secondary School, Glasgow

The pupils of St Margaret Mary’s Secondary School designed, sourced and produced a product which strikes at the very heart and root of sectarianism – a football appropriately named “Kick Bigotry Out”.  The football sparked off a number of other ideas for products such as t-shirts and key rings, all profits made were donated to charity.

St Margaret Mary’s has received lots of positive and encouraging messages and requests from parents in the area.  The “Times Education Supplement” featured the story which lead to a number of enquires from other schools wishing to promote the anti-bigotry message within their learning communities.  The pupils are now involved in a Sense Over Sectarianism project and feel strongly that every school in Scotland could use their footballs as a resource.
