The principal teacher of media studies at St Columba's RC High School was the creative force behind a project that has developed media studies for challenging pupils.
The Multi Media Together project (TM-MT) aims to provide a safe, creative, environment for young people in West Fife to learn about televisual and electronic arts in a professional and practical format. The project is a partnership between 7 West Fife high schools, their associated primary schools, the Sub Station recording studio and Sky television.
In the first year of the scheme over 60% of places on the project were allocated to young people whose families are socially disadvantaged, disaffected or not engaging in the curriculum. In addition to producing CDs and DVDs, young people learn the skills involved in pre and post production, editing, marketing and distribution, enhancing future career opportunities. The project also explores all artistic and commercial aspects of modern media. Overall the TM-MT project has not only encouraged commitment to learning and achievement but also brought the added benefits of improved attendance and interpersonal skills.
