This award recognises schools and pre-schools who are providing opportunities for all children to have full and vibrant access to education, removing barriers where they exist. This recognises best practice in supporting children who require universal, targeted or more sustained support to overcome barriers to embracing learning for any reason.
If you can respond positively and in some detail to the following questions, we would welcome your nomination.
In what ways does your school develop and maintain an inclusive culture and ethos?
What innovative approaches do your practitioners use to enable children and young people to overcome barriers to learning? (A barrier to learning might include the learning environment, family circumstances, disability or health problems, or social and emotional factors.)
How do your school staff work effectively with partners (eg health and social work services, voluntary organisations and other partners) to enable children and young people to make the most of their educational opportunities?
How do your school staff ensure that high aspirations for children and young people’s learning are set and maintained?
How do you ensure that children and young people are included, engaged and involved?
What are the outcomes of these approaches in terms of impact on children and young people, the whole-school community and the wider community?
Nominations for the 2010 Scottish Education Awards are now closed.
